To those here who do not know yet, Yami and his friends have made a demo-video of the A-Class Battle: Balloon.
Here are the links:
PART 1
PART 2
*I could've post embed video here, but I haven't for the sake of those who have slow internet connection, lol.
I honestly watched both parts from beginning to the end and willing to leave some feedback and constructive criticism. Everything that goes next is my personal, honest and humble opinion, I do not intend to offend anyone. I just want to say what needs to be said.
Firstly, I'd like to thank Evi, Spike, Reno, Yami and P.Wee for spending their time making this and not being lazy asses(like me, lol ). The battleground was chosen perfectly, even at the nighttime everything was clear and visible. Also I've notice some quite nice spots worth to ride there. Cool drops, rails, ledges, many possible routes and NOT A SINGLE CAR PARKED, what a surprise. Such a shame I don't have such a parking lot in my city. Oh, and personal thumb up from me for the Crush 40 - Open Your Heart. Thanks guys, really. You know how to pick up some good tracks, I'm quite tired of that crap they put in pro-riders edits. Yeah, there are a few exceptions, but still...
Now, here comes the bitter part.
While I was watching, a couple of questions popped up in my head:
1) Uh, I thought solo-version type of battles would be played as duels, one rider against another rider, not the multiple singles participating at once. The battle rules page didn't gave me the answer, so the next question goes to you, Yami: where are the updated rules? Excuse me if I sound too impolite, maybe you just haven't time to post new rules, but still I want to know if I'm right or is it something else.
2) The ball. Doesn't it seem like it's totally inconvenient to use a basketball? It limits your moves rather much, why not try to use something that can be carried in one hand? Then you will be able to keep your balance unaffected and will be able to do most of your moves: strides, slides, jumps, grinds, almost everything unaffected.
To me it seemed that each round you've followed pretty much the same route down a couple of levels of parking lot and finishing in the same location. The battle looked more like the stereotypical "capture the flag" rather than innovative Parts War A-Class Battle. If I remember correctly, in the Balloon Battle, the Panther must retrieve the object and keep it for a certain amount of time, not to bring it somewhere. So, according to rules, you could've catch the ball and run all over the parking lot: up and down, run up the staircases, jump from one level down to another. Yes, I've taken into account that none of you are that skilled to successfully land a 6-7 meter drop, but guys, honestly, at least you could've be more active in maneuvering. Again, I don't want to offend anyone, I just say that even with your skills it could've been turned out MUCH better.
Then, some thought about the future demo videos:
Tell me honestly, who of you can sit still and watch something (sorry, guys) not really impressive for 20 minutes? In my opinion, demo should be 1-2 minutes long, describing the thing as precisely as possible. It doesn't even have to consist totally of live footage, it can be a schematic drawing, or something like that(I just can't describe what I think it should look like, I guess I have to find an example somewhere. I'll post that later, when I'll find one). In perfect case, live footage should serve as an example of scheme. Short, informative and memorable.
Again, I shall remind you that I DIDN'T HAVE ANY INTENTION TO OFFEND ANYONE. I tried to be as reasonable and fair as I ever could.
