in blading your hands and wrist take a lot of damage so how do you protect them? there are normally 2 options (that i know of), wrist guards (plastic guards that go around your wrist and palm), wrist wraps (fabric tightly pulled around your wrist and palm)
I personally think wrist guards restrictive nature makes it too hard to use your hands in tricks, such as free running tricks like vaults. but on the up side there hard so you don't get hurt. i like using wraps for the freedom i keep in hand plants and vaults. the only down side i can see is they do get rip fast if you don't where gloves over them. You know what? I've actually been wondering about wraps for a while. Guards are really restricting when it comes to using your hands, that's for sure. Either that or I've yet to find a pair of wrist guards to prove otherwise. XD

Well, good for me that I don't have such problems, as I ride without any protection

Haha, I ride similarly to Shadow in that regard. I don't wear much more than a jacket, and occasionally my gloves. However, I have looked at wraps before, but not extensively. If anyone has more info, please share!

lol most people don't ride with protective gear it cost mony, most of its uncomfortable, some people think it looks lame or a mark of a poser (most people ether think we are gay or think we are skate boarders any ways, why does what they think matter i still don't understand)
i think other then allowing you to stay in the sport longer by reducing serious injuries, it also broadens what you can do. knee pads can be used to slide, gloves allow hand plants and vaults on otherwise dangerous surfaces, gloves with a tack surface allow the use of your hands to scale a wall (like a vault going up, not like spider man)
this being sad your gear needs to feel good so it does take time to find ones that fell good for you and your style (blading/skating style more so then esthetics).

I wear wrist guards, since I'm kinda paranoid about breaking 'em, and knee pads when I play hockey, but for that, my protective gear is really for making sure I can walk in the morning. I really tend to take hits playing that... Anyway, I reckon for newbies, at the very least, some gear even if its minimal, is important.

Well, maybe. Starting and continuing riding without any protective gear however has it's own advantages: 1) Person is more cautious at learning and actual riding. Having felt badly once he won't like to fall again. 2) It's natural selection! Those who cry after a single scratch will leave, thus only the strongest riders will stay.

tho i do agree with natural selection in a sport and pads do enforce bad falling habits but the life span you can ride is greatly reduced i never wore pads skate boarding (tho the ability to bail is very helpful) and my knees and wrist are not what they use to be. my wrist pops with slight movement (not always an audible pop but can def feel it) and my shins feel like a mountain range (i think most action sports are ruff on you shins). i would like to do this well into my 40s or even 50s, when i started blading alot of my life started to become built around it, exercise routines, what degree im going for, hell even how i organize my room is so i can get my equipment fast and get out the door fast haha. so personally i would hate to lose that even if its only been a short time since i started it has become a way of keeping my sanity, a relies from normal life problems.
